My Background
* BA in Psychology from Oberlin College, 1987
* Predoctoral internship at the University of Cincinnati Counseling Center
* Ph.D. from Miami University (APA accredited, 1995)
* Licensed in Massachusetts, 1997
I have provided individual therapy to adults since 1994, and have had a private practice since 2000. My special interests include mood disorders like anxiety and depression, grief, relationship problems, neuroatypicality, and sorting out one's direction in life, along with alternative lifestyle, spirituality and sexuality issues. I also do pet-loss grief counseling.
My approach is curious, respectful and non-judgmental, so I'm easy to work with if you come from a lifestyle or identity that is unusual. I have experience with many kinds of diversity, and also plenty of experience in working with people who have more mainstream lives. I spent many years working both in Lawrence, MA and also near the financial district in Boston, so I have experience with people from different class backgrounds. Because I am only available three days a week in my small practice, I'm best at working with people who are unlikely to be in major crisis or need to see me several times a week. I specialize in working with individual adults, and don't see couples, children or families.
I respect your time and money, and will do my best to work with you quickly, efficiently, and according to what our schedules allow. If I'm not the right person for you, I'll be happy to help you find someone who is a better match.
I am in-network for Blue Cross/Blue Shield only, but I also take many out-of-network or PPO plans. Either way, you should contact your insurance company to make sure there will be no problem covering me under your specific plan. I will take care of billing your plan for you, even if it's an out-of-network plan. Unfortunately, I can't take Medicaid; Medicaid does not credential psychologists in private practice for therapy. If you have a plan with a big deductible and a Health Savings Account or FSA through your job, I can help you get reimbursed for the deductible and copays, and I can charge your FSA/HSA card directly. Since I do my own billing, I have come to understand a fair amount about how insurance and other plans work and I'm happy to help you with it.
Appointment Availability:
I am not currently taking clients, but you are welcome to check in with me to see when I might be available again. If you'd like to talk about scheduling, please e-mail me at lynda@lyndawarwick.com. Spots go first to previous clients who want to come back, so sometimes it takes awhile for things to open up. Also, in any long-standing practice, spots tend to fill up with people who stay in therapy for a long time, so I don't have much turnover. But I do have a spot now and then!
